As The Well Church continues to be formed, we’re hosting a few simple gatherings for conversation, discernment, and invitation. These spaces are meant for listening, asking questions, praying, and being attentive to God and one another, together.

Needless to say, 2025 was a challenging year for our family. After a medical diagnosis, two open-heart surgeries, and six total hospitalizations for our son Benji, we are grateful to enter 2026 knowing we are both better for what we went through and more tired because of it, too!

We are back home after another hospitalization - our sixth in six months.

Benji is stable, but fighting off both a lung infection and a virus. Even common illnesses challenge his heart, so he is hospitalized for medical support and monitoring.

Life with a medically needy kiddo is unpredictable and often requires quick decisions and changes on the fly. Hopefully, we can keep him home for a while now.

The doctors tell us that life will 'normalize' some for now, as much as it can with a medically needy child. While we hope that is true, we still hold our son with open hands.

We will be staying local to Gainesville for a few more days to monitor Benji and make sure he doesn't need readmission for any reason. But we are confident we will be heading home very soon!

The operation began this morning at 8:30am and ended about five hours later. The surgeon said everything went well and that Benji's heart is strong.

Six months ago we felt this day was a lifetime away. But it's here.

Benji’s surgery has been moved up several weeks to Friday, August 8.

Life with a medically needy baby can change quickly…
