Cath

Last Monday, we took Benji up to Shands Children's Hospital in Gainesville for a heart catheterization procedure to check the integrity of his first surgery in preparation for his next surgery ("Glenn"). Days before, his cardiologist saw narrowing of Benji's shunt, and told us he might need an additional procedure to keep him safe and comfortable until the Glenn. The team in Gainesville confirmed, and they ballooned his shunt and put a stent in it to keep it open while also conducting the original operation.

Benji was a rockstar through the procedures (and all the other tests he had to get!), and we were home a couple days later. It was a short stay that went well overall. Yet, it was also a reminder of how serious Benji's condition is and how challenging hospital life is on the whole family. It gave us important experience and perspective as we prepare for the next operation and stay.

For those who continue to follow us through this, here are some thoughts we have and ways you can be rejoicing and praying with us:

  • Benji is growing, thriving, and becoming so much fun. His smile lights up the room and his little laugh is precious. We rejoice at how far he's come. Celebrate with us!

  • The Gainesville team continues to impress us with their skill and give us confidence we are getting Benji's care in the right place. Join us in thanking God for a great team.

  • Based on what was discovered last week, Benji’s next major surgery needs to happen sooner than expected. Many variables factor into how that is ultimately determined. Pray for a quick decision, a date favorable for all parties, and for all the prep.

  • We are so grateful for the generosity of so many, yet, the financial aspect and practical needs remain a burden. Please pray for continued provision.

We have been sharing these two verses with each other often lately.

And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.

—Galatians 6:9 ESV

Therefore don’t worry about tomorrow, because tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

—Matthew 6:34 CSB

This is hard, but we know it is a good thing to take care of our sons. We are trusting God’s faithfulness to His promises, and, though often weary and worried, we are not giving up! As you think of us, please pray for our continued perseverance.

We love you and thank you,

A & C
