Benji’s One Month Update
Another week here at Shands.
Benji continues to recover as he approaches 1 month old. This week, the sutures were removed from his chest wound, which is healing nicely. He had been doing so well that we actually thought we would be going home this weekend. But then the team here discovered a hidden arrhythmia that required prompt attention and adjustment of meds. A few bad days followed. His stats declined, he struggled to eat or keep food down, and lost some weight. Those couple of days were hard. Thankfully, yesterday and today have been much better and he is back trending in the right direction. There is no new word on discharge at this point, but we are hopeful it will be soon. We want to get as much time home as we can before Benji's next open heart surgery in a couple of months. In the meantime, his favorite activities (besides sleeping) include snuggles, looking into the hallway, and making his pacifier buddy bust a move
Edmund James has spent the last ten days away from us back home with his grandparents. He wasn't doing well here, and we had increased responsibility at the hospital with Benji while also recovering from being sick, so it was best to send him home. We miss him, but he is doing great! The lawn will be mowed in no time...
Mom and Dad continue to get closer to feeling 100% better, but we aren't quite there yet. Eating still bothers us, and by the end of the day we are absolutely wiped out of any energy. But we are getting there.
Thank you for your continued prayers and support. We know there are so many people behind us and we do not take that for granted. We love you all.
Persevering,
A&C
