Chylous
We're back at UF Shands Children's Hospital :(
During Benji's cardiologist visit Thursday, they found a lot of fluid on his left lung. He is 3 weeks out of the hospital, and there should be no fluid. Thankfully, his heart looks great, but we still had to make another trip to Gainsville the same day. While here, they found the fluid was chylous effusion, meaning his lymphatic system is back-flowing into his body. This is an unfortunate but common complication near the entry site of the second surgery. To manage it, they inserted a tube on Friday to drain it. They also switched his formula and stopped all breastfeeding. We are expected to be here a week while they monitor and manage the drainage. It feels defeating because we just got back into a routine. Edmund has been needing mommy a lot, so we decided to bring him again. We are currently in an Airbnb thanks to the generosity of so many.
Praise:
Andrews parents drove from Georgia again to help us! Edmund was very excited to see them.
Benji's heart is looking great, the surgery is holding.
His cardiologist found the fluid before Benji was critical, knew exactly what needed done, and arranged our admission for us. We are so so grateful for Dr. D!
Prayer:
We are exhausted.
It is hard to back in the hospital so soon
Edmund is with us again, and nights are rough.
The fluid would drain and not reaccumlate
Sleep for Benji. Hospitals are terrible to sleep in
That the New formula doesn't wreck Benji's little tummy.
Due to the feeding changes, Benji cries a lot when Mommy is around, so Daddy is taking the brunt of the hospital work.
Strength and endurance
Thank you for being with us!
